Being Purpose-Led: The Courage to Blaze Your Own Trail
It's a strange paradox, isn't it? People often scoff at those who dare to start a business, yet they happily dedicate their lives to working for someone else's dream. But what if your life's true purpose isn't found on a pre-packaged path, but rather by tuning into what you're genuinely good at and acting on it?
Breaking Free from the Blueprint
So many of us are trapped in a default setting: go to school, get a job, find a spouse, have kids, pay bills etc. This linear path, while seemingly safe and secure, can quietly breed depression and anxiety. We spend our days working on projects we don't truly care about, driven by the fear of the unknown. The thought of breaking free, of experimenting and forging a new path, can be terrifying because the outcome isn't guaranteed.
But here's a powerful truth: it's far better to fail while chasing your dreams than to live with the haunting question of “what if?” or haunting words of “i should've”.
Why Do We Surrender Our Dreams?
Think about it: Why do we so often give up on our own dreams to fulfill someone else's?
As I said , reject everything that doesn't feel right until you discover that one beautiful thing you can't help but admire doing. Because if your success is simply assigned to you, it was never truly yours in the first place.
Get sick of being sick.
These days information and tools are more accessible than ever before. The choice is yours: study anything from anywhere, learn from the world's best teachers, follow people who genuinely inspire you. You can even advertise yourself by showcasing your work through content creation, opening doors to opportunities you never knew existed.
The Uncharted Path of Purpose
This is what it means to be Purpose-Led. As Nomndeni Mdakhi once shared on Mpumi Ledwaba's podcast, “Follow what's calling you, because it will lead you to where God needs you to be.” And in that process, it's crucial to “be still; everything is happening as it should be.”
Finding your purpose comes with its challenges. Unlike the robotic, pre-designed life society often lays out for us, the outcome of a purpose-led life is wonderfully unknown. It truly sets you apart from 71% of people, and it's where the profound journey of self-discovery begins.
Fail, fail, fail as much as you can until you can afford to win.
Believe it or not, achieving greatness involves countless setbacks. These aren't failures; they're opportunities to restructure your plan and make crucial pivots. I don't believe in a Plan B. I believe people can reach their desired dreams, no matter how distant they seem.
Approach life like a game of chess: start as a pawn, take two steps forward, and then one step each day closer to success, eventually transforming into the queen.
In your hardest moments, use those you admire as your guiding stars. Ask yourself, “What would Steve Jobs do in this situation?”
